I’d love the two of them in a team book.
Together my cats can do anything!
Once upon a time there was a woman named Elaine. She was in her late twenties, and she had everything that everyone around her wanted. She had a lovely house in a nice area of town, she had a great job in which she earned lots of money and she was engaged to a wonderful man. Elaine had got her wedding dress fitted, her flowers were ordered, the band had been book and the guests had been invited. Elaine was pleased at how everything had come together and everyone was pleased for Elaine. To reward herself for all of her hard work, she settled down one evening a week before the wedding and decided to watch television. Elaine liked gritty dramas because they were so different from her everyday life, so it was no surprise that when a film about women in the prison system came on, she wanted to watch it.
The film turned out not to be as entertaining and Elaine had hoped, but nevertheless she persevered with it. She was just about to go and get herself a glass of wine, when something on the screen caught her attention; or rather, someone. On screen Elaine saw a woman. This woman was different from any woman she had ever seen before. She was a live wire, her personality jumped out at Elaine through the screen, her green eyes were burning their way through her soul, as brightly as her flame red hair shone. Her presence on screen was haunting Elaine and she didn’t know what to do. She didn’t want to take her eyes off this woman but she knew that the film would soon be over and she would be gone.
At the end of the film, Elaine waited through the end credits, for some sign of the woman’s name, but none came. Elaine didn’t know what to do. Everything she had thought about her life, her house, her job was quickly becoming unraveled; all thanks to this mystery woman. Elaine knew that she could not go on living her life without this woman in it. She had to find her, she’d wasted too much time already.
Elaine got in her car and drove. She drove all the way to London, past the suburbs and the shops and straight to the studio that had produced the film. They would be able to help her. Elaine wasn’t sure if the receptionist at the studio pitied her or empathised with her, but either way she told Elaine where she would find her mystery woman. Elaine ran to the sound stage where the mystery woman was filming, unsure of what exactly she would do or say. What if the woman thought she was crazy? She was crazy wasn’t she? People don’t go running off to London to meet people off the television. She thought about turning back, running home to the safety of her house, her job, her fiance; but there she was, in the flesh. Her mystery woman.
"I’m Elaine, I…"
"Sonya" She held out her hand, and she never let go.
This is the story of how my aunts met. To me, their story represents the absolute pinnacle of everything that is romantic about this world. It gives me hope. Because even after 18 years, countless family dramas, 8 countries, and several broken bones they are still together. Their love is the kind of love that you can’t just throw away, and I hope Sonya never does let go.
